Marvel Winter WonderWheels 2026
Dorney Lake, Windsor
A festive ride by the lake. Come dressed as a superhero.
About
About the day
Winter WonderWheels is a festive challenge around Dorney Lake, put on by the Superhero Series. You can walk, wheel, run or ride. There are 1 km, 5 km and 10 km routes, and there are no cut-off times. Come dressed as a superhero!
We go as an Adventure Bound team. In 2025, our team rode 5 km, one lap of the lake, and Paralympic champion Sophie Christiansen joined us.

Getting there
Where
Dorney Lake, Eton College Rowing Centre, off Court Lane, Dorney, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 6FJ. Open in Google Maps (opens in a new tab)
Parking and entry are free, and supporters are very welcome.
By car
Leave the M4 at junction 7 (from the M25, leave at junction 15 and follow the signs for Slough). Take the A4 towards Maidenhead. At the roundabout after the traffic lights, turn left onto the B3026 for Dorney and Eton. On the left-hand bend, turn right for Dorney Reach. After 400 m, go through the large white gates. Parking marshals show you where to park.
By train
The nearest stations are Slough and Windsor & Eton Riverside. Burnham, Taplow and Maidenhead are also near. You need a taxi or a lift from the station.
Parking and kit drop
This is how it worked in 2025. Many families have a blue badge, so not everyone can park near the hub. There is a kit drop behind Mission HQ, where helpers meet you and help with your kit. A shuttle bus runs between the car parks and the hub.

Timings
These are the start times from the Superhero Series. See the start times on their website (opens in a new tab).
- 10:00: Mission HQ and registration open. Register at least an hour before your start time.
- 11:00: The Lakeside Dash (1 km) starts.
- 11:45: Once round the lake (5 km) starts. Our team rode this one in 2025.
- 12:30: Twice round the lake (10 km) starts.
Go to the start line 15 minutes before your start time, for a warm-up and a safety briefing with Father Christmas. So for the 5 km, register by 10:45 and be at the start line by 11:30.
The 5 km and the 10 km set off in two waves, a few minutes apart, on two paths side by side.
There is festive music from the Yiewsley & West Drayton Band and Rock Choir.

Safety checks
An organised event
Winter WonderWheels is an organised event. The Superhero Series plan it and do their own risk assessments. If you want to take part, read as much as you can about the event first: this page, and the Superhero Series website (opens in a new tab).
The course
- The path is asphalt, all the way around the lake.
- The path does not go too close to the water.
- The path is about 2.5 m wide at its narrowest point.
- The path goes up and over some small bridges.
- You ride in a big group, most of all at the start. People spread out around the course after a while.
The skills you need to ride it
To ride the course safely, an adventurer needs to be able to:
- start and stop safely, and use the brakes when they need to
- ride in a straight line, and stay on their side of the path
- ride near other people on bikes, and let faster people go past
- ride up and down the small bridges
- ride the whole lap, with breaks when they need them
The badges to have first
At Bike Club, an adventurer who has finished INTRO and has these badges has the skills to ride the course safely. See all the badges on the Bike Club page.
